Course Description

This introductory course familiarizes students with lighting as both a natural phenomenon in everyday life and a creative medium in the arts. It introduces the basic principles of theatrical lighting, colour theory, and lighting equipment. Students explore methods of harmoniously lighting a stage and its variations, while gaining hands-on experience with lighting consoles and contemporary technologies, including automated lighting systems.

After the completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand light as both a natural and artistic element; 

  • apply colour principles in a clear and purposeful way; 

  • distinguish between different types of lighting instruments and their use 

  • design a basic lighting plan for a performance;

  • prepare relevant documentation for lighting design and production; 

collaborate effectively with other members of a theatre production team
